The Financial Accountant role offers an exciting opportunity to be a key player in managing the accounting and financial activities of a business unit within the Pathology division. This position provides a chance to collaborate closely with the national accounting team, contributing to important tasks such as month-end journals, variance analysis, and balance sheet reconciliation. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work alongside our revenue data assurance team, master data team, and other key business partners, gaining exposure to a broad range of financial processes and fostering valuable cross-functional relationships.

What You Will Be Doing
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Owning the end of month procedures of the respective division.
- Support financial accounting team with month end activities, include but are not limited to:
- Processing of accruals, prepayments, and subsequent journals
- Reporting and analysis including investigation and analysis of result variances
- Follow-up of reconciling items to ensure timely clearance
- Assist with Balance Sheet reconciliations
- Assist with tax required documentation
- Become the internal SME in relation to a group level accounting function/process.
- Assisting with the audit process, liaising with external auditors and other external advisors where required.
- Working with the other internal stakeholders to establish clear, well documented and collaborative processes as it pertains to month end journals and financial reporting.
- Develop into an in-house SME for a particular function as it pertains to associated elements for financial reporting & control.
- Assist in the annual budgeting & monthly forecasting of the business unit.
- Participate in related systems, process or internal change initiatives and process improvements.
- Review financial processes and identify improvements in their efficiency and effectiveness.
- Build effective working relationships with BU stakeholders – both Finance and non-Finance.
- Work with financial accounting manager, FP&A, AR and master data team in assisting with continuous improvements on the revenue process.
What Type of Person Will Be Successful
The successful candidate for this role will be someone who is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. They will thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing strict deadlines and adhering to reporting timetables. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for success in this role, as is the ability to show initiative and be a proactive self-starter. The ideal individual will have a tertiary qualification in Accounting, at least two years of post-qualification experience, and a strong working knowledge of MS Excel, with Power Query exposure being highly desirable. Experience in a Big 4 audit firm would be an added advantage.
